Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date
The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
